More than one thousand customers lost power Tuesday morning after a vegetation fire that may have been sparked by a downed power line in El Cajon, according to an SDG&E spokesperson.

The fire started about 4.15 a.m. near 2018 Willow Drive, according to Cal Fire.

SDG&E was called to the scene for reports of a downed power line near the origin of the fire, according to an SDG&E spokesperson.

Only 29 customers were originally without power. One thousand more customers were taken offline as a precaution in parts of Casa De Oro, Rancho San Diego, Granite Hills, La Presa, Spring Valley and Rancho San Diego.

Most of the customers had power restored by 6.30 a.m.

The original 29 customers were expected to have power restored by 10.30 a.m.

It’s not yet clear how the power line went down.
