1 Killed, 2 Injured in I-5 Crash Near Cardiff-by-the-Sea

One person died and two others were injured when a car crashed into the back of a tractor trailer on Interstate 5 near Cardiff-by-the-Sea Saturday.

California Highway Patrol officers said a big rig had stopped along northbound I-5 at the Manchester exit around 2:30 a.m.

The driver told CHP a strap on his vehicle had come undone and he was stopped on the right shoulder attempting to fix it when a 2009 Nissan collided into the back of his truck.

Three women were inside the Nissan, officials said. The driver was killed in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers were taken to a nearby hospital with what CHP officers described as moderate injuries.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
