Eighty-three-year-old Dorothy Brunauer of Sunnyvale describes being held at gunpoint in her home.

Sunnyvale police are investigating a home invasion where an elderly couple was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight Saturday afternoon.

Police said the home invasion happened at about 3 p.m. The robber came in and took what he wanted at gunpoint, police said.

The couple said they were shaken up and very upset, mostly about losing some valuable, sentimental jewelry the man was able to make off with.

Eighty-three-year-old Dorothy Brunauer said she first spotted the suspect on Friday, sitting on her front porch and then standing at her front door. She also said the man seemed frantic and was talking, but she could not understand him.

She then apologized and shut the door.

Then on Saturday, around 3 p.m., Brunauer said she encountered the man again, but this time, inside her home with a pistol. After pushing her husband up against a wall, she said the suspect demanded money and jewelry.

"Think about your mother," Brunauer said. "Would you like someone to treat your mother and do to your mother and father what you’ve did to us? And you took to us things that meant a lot to us that we can never replace."

Brunauer said the man took all of her good jewelry from a case in the bedroom, snatched a necklace off her neck, took rings right off her fingers, and took a watch her husband was wearing.

Brunauer said he also forced her to give him her purse, and right after getting what he was looking for, he took off.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between 35 to 40 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and has an average build with a full beard.

Sunnyvale police are asking those with information to contact them.
