I'm not even in Texas and I can say I'm already exhausted by South By Southwest. Every band is the "band to watch" or "next big thing" and the emails, tweets, Facebook posts and Foursquare checkins can be tiresome. Fortunately, here at home in San Diego, you don't have to hike around town, wait in endless lines only to be told a place is at capacity or race from spot to spot just in case you might end up in the right place at the right time. No, here in San Diego, you can see great bands like the Ruby Suns and Painted Palms at the Casbah, in the comfort of a bar where you have some breathing room. Or you can support a great cause, like the 1:1 Movement that focuses on sustainability, by heading to the Soda Bar to check out the benefit appropriately named Fish Out of Water. And while I don't normally like to focus on tribute or cover bands, DJ Mancat promises to deliver a very entertaining tribute to Daft Punk, because how do we even know that Daft Punk isn't actually a tribute act to themselves when hidden behind all of those costumes? Wednesday is going to be a very good night in the comfort of our sweet home, San Diego.
