The Goomies are a young San Diego band performing tonight at the House of Blues' Local Brews Local Grooves weekly showcase.
All music comes full circle, and the current revival of the old Stax and Motown sounds are bringing a whole new generation of crooners who draw inpiration from the past while moving their music forward. Eli "Paperboy" Reed is one such singer, and this white boy has got some serious soul. Head over to the Casbah for some Tuesday-night booty shaking.
Around town you can head over to the House of Blues for their weekly Local Brews Local Grooves showcase. Bands register through Listen Local SD, so you're hearing new bands -- all for free -- on the Salvation Alley stage located on the main floor of the venue. I haven't seen all of these bands, but the New Assembly are amazing, and I recently met the Goomies after a January show at Soda Bar and totally dug their sound. While you're downtown, swing by El Dorado to catch the Mattson II or head up to Hillcrest to check out Circa Now.
