Google Giving Us Ice Cream

Only a month after the roll-out of Android 2.3, or Gingerbread, and a week after Android 3.0, or Honeycomb was announced, there are reports of another Android version coming to smartphones this summer.

Android 2.4, or Ice Cream, will be the latest version of the Android operating system coming out in June, Pocket-lint reported. That's three updates in six months for Google, although Honeycomb is aimed primarily at tablets and specifically to make applications work better on larger screens.

Android 2.3's Honeycomb is giving users 3-D graphics and a better browser, but so far there's no word on what 2.4 will be able to do -- whether it will increase speed, productivity or graphics.

However, Google engineers updating Android every six months is a selling point for the platform, because it shows that it's constantly evolving with new technology and its users. Like most of its updates, the new version will likely be sent electronically to each mobile phone or device.
