Kristen Wiig Comedy Gets a Boost From Apatow

Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, co-creators of "Freaks & Geeks," are throwing their weight behind the new comedy from "Saturday Night Live" star Kristen Wiig.

Wiig, who has seven films slated for release in 2010, has long been poised to be the next breakout star from "SNL," but the appropriate lead role has eluded her.

Befitting a woman of her chops, she's decided to make her own opportunity, co-writing "Bridesmaids" with Annie Mumolo.

Apatow, who will produce, has as good a track record as anyone working today. And while most of Feig's directing has been for the small screen, it's been for some of the best shows on TV, including "Bored to Death," "The Office," "Mad Men," "30 Rock" and "Weeds."

Normally, a movie about two women competing to throw their friend's wedding would make our skin crawl, but Wiig gives us hope.
