Happy Mother’s Day!

We are starting off this Sunday with overcast sky conditions, but the good news is, we have better chances for clearing this afternoon!

For our coastal communities, clouds will stick around throughout most of the morning with chances for sunshine by the afternoon.

Meantime, the rest of the county will see ample sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures. Wind gusts over our mountains and deserts could reach 25-30 mph this afternoon through this evening.

Northwesterly and westerly winds will be mild for the coast and valleys with wind speeds between 10 and 15 mph. Meantime, expect gustier conditions through this evening for our mountains and deserts with wind speeds from 25-30 mph.

Per NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, there is a geomagnetic storm watch through the weekend, caused by solar flares directed at the Earth. This could cause communication disruptions, and possible power interruptions, and Northern Lights could occur as far south as Southern California.

Tonight:

An expert from NOAA’S Solar Storm Prediction Center tells me there is still a good chance to see the aurora borealis tonight from our mountain communities. For those heading that way, temperatures will taper off to the 50s for our higher elevations, plus, it will be breezy. The coast and valleys will see the return of clouds later tonight through Monday morning.

Cloudy mornings and evenings will continue this week, and daytime highs will be just a few degrees cooler by the start of the upcoming week, which is a trend that will take us through Thursday.

  • Valleys: Sunny – Mid-70s to near 80
