Here's a listing of some of the Dia de los Muertos Events happening Around Town:

Join Danza Mixcoatl at Chicano Park Kiosko, November 1 from 6 pm-9 pm for Dia de los Muertos-Day of the Dead. Muertos, an indigenous tradition from Central Mexico (November 1 and 2) is a special time to remember those who have passed away and to celebrate their lives. Enjoy the opportunity to speak with the Ofrenda builders and to bring your personal ofrendas and memories to add to our community (acceptable ofrendas are: flowers, candy, candles, photos, letters, food, toys). Chicano Park is located under the Coronado bridge on ramp, off Cesar Chavez Parkway, betweeen Logan and National Ave in Barrio Logan. www.communitymortuary.com

Join the Oceanside community in celebrating the Day of the Dead on November 2 from 10am-4pm at the Pier View Way at Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside. There is free parking available within 1-2 blocks from event. The event is free and open to all. Phone: (Phone: 760-754-4512) www.msoceanside.com

Come down to the Old Town Dia de los Muertos Celebration. There’s no need to cross the border to celebrate “Dia de Los Muertos” (Day of the Dead)! Elaborately decorated altars honoring the dead will be displayed in the courtyard of the Bazaar del Mundo Shops and Casa Guadalajara in Old Town San Diego and at Casa de Pico in La Mesa during the annual Celebration October 31- November 2.

Come be a part of Sherman Heights Day of the Dead 2008.  Many local families will create traditional Mexican altars inside the Community Center (2258 Island Ave SD 92102). There will be food, folk art, and many activities for everyone to enjoy!  Guided tours for the outdoor altars (created in homes around the community ) will be available on Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 at 11:30am and 2:30pm (departing spot will be at the Villa Montezuma on the corner of K St & 20th).

Check out the Dia De Los Muertos Exhibit at the Centro Cultural de la Raza from October 28–November 9. The Red CalacArts Collective presents: Altares Para los Muertos, a dia de los muertos altar exhibition curated by Cal A. Vera.  Featuring altars by: Enrique Morones and Border Angels, Pura Vida, Teresa Yolanda Lopez, The Infinity Lab, Guerrero Aztecs Peace Project, San Diego HIV Planning Council and HIV Prevention Community Planning Board.  They will be doing a joint altar honoring those that passed away from HIV/AIDS.
