Israel has accepted a new U.S. proposal for a temporary ceasefire with Hamas, the White House said Thursday.

The Hamas statement Sunday does not say when the release will happen, but the announcement comes before Donald Trump visits the Middle East this week.

“We have a U.S. citizen, a child, who was murdered in cold blood,” one official told NBC News. “Why should we not be treated equally as any other American?”

The Jewish holiday, which begins at sunset on Saturday, April 12 this year, lasts for seven or eight days each year.
