Padres Take Tate in MLB Draft

San Diego Padres announce their first draft pick in the 2009 MLB Draft

With the 3rd pick in the Major League Baseball Draft, the San Diego Padres selected someone that's a bit of a surprise.  A very pleasant surprise.

Donavan Tate, a centerfielder from Cartersville High School in Georgia, is considered the best prep position player in the draft.  He's 6'3", 210 pounds and an amazing athlete.  Tate (whose father Lars played running back in the NFL) also has a full-ride football scholarship to North Carolina to play quarterback and safety.  The Padres are in need of a few athletes who can play exciting baseball, and this kid will certainly help in that area.
