He's Out: Padres' CEO Leaving

Sandy Alderson's tenure with the Padres will end Thursday, according to a published report.

Multiple sources confirmed to the North County Times that Alderson has informed the team he is officially stepping down as CEO this week.

Alderson's departure comes as no surprise since he announced in February that he would leave as CEO once Jeff Moorad assumes ownership and control of the Padres, which will likely come Thursday afternoon. Moorad and a group of investors are in the process of purchasing the Padres from John Moores. At the time, Moorad said he expected to be in place as the club's CEO by Opening Day -- on April 6 -- and expected that Alderson would resign.
