Changing of the Guard?

After Oceanside Fumbles, Cathedral Recovers Top Spot

Could we be seeing the changing of the guard?  The Oceanside Pirates have held the top ranking for over a year now, but with their 33-33 tie in Ramona Friday, the Pirates' ship has seemingly sank.

Oceanside shot themselves in the foot.  They allowed Ramona to come back from 21 points down to score in the fourth quarter to force a tie. After the Bulldogs tied it up, Oceanside QB Jordan Wynn had just under 30 seconds to take his team down the field and get into field-goal range.  Wynn hit Demario Coleman for 15 yards with less than 10 seconds left, but Coleman couldn't get down fast enough for the Pirates to call the timeout, and the game ended in a draw.

The new No. 1? Cathedral Catholic. Cathedral proved their strength by blowing out a very good Scripps Ranch team by 33 points.  The county's best running back, Tyler Gaffney, also proved himself, punching in seven rushing TDs on the night.  The Falcons seemed to have no answer for Gaffney's physical game. Scripps quarterback Tate Forcier had a solid night in the losing effort, throwing for just under 300 yards and four touchdowns.
