Can you hear the judge now?
A Northern Ireland man who showed up to watch a civil trial was instead hauled off to jail after taking a phone call in the courtroom.
The chatty spectator, 36-year-old Paddy Sweeney, was ordered behind bars for two hours then fined $322 after ignoring a judge’s request that he turn off his blaring cell phone, The Associated Reported.
Sweeny reportedly spoke for a brief period after getting a call while inside the Londonderry courtroom and could have faced up to a month in the clink and a $4,025 fine for the interruption, according to the AP.
