U.S. & World
After a heartbreaking defeat in the final round of the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2012, Helen Maroulis has bounced back to rank first in the world in her weight class. In the ramp-up to the Rio Olympics, the six-time national champion finally broke through for her first career world title in 2015.
Before winning the world title, she won the silver medal in 2012 and the bronze in 2013. Maroulis won three medals in the Junior World Championship.
Maroulis, who grew up in Rockville, Maryland, has racked up most of her accolades while wrestling at 55kg (121 lbs), but that weight class is not on the 2016 Olympic program. Instead, she has cut weight to get down to 53kg (116.5 lbs), and the Maryland native hopes to carry her dominance over into that division.
