GOP Celebrates Gains: “The Republican Party Is Back”

Republicans celebrated Wednesday historic electoral gains that wrested back control of the U.S. Senate, expanded their majority in the House and notched big wins in statehouse and gubernatorial contests. The GOP's history-making candidates included Mia Love, who will be the first black Republican woman in Congress, and Elise Stefanik, 30, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. “The Republican Party is back,” National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden told reporters. “We’re back with youth, we’re back with diversity, and we’re back with women.” Republican National Committee head Reince Priebus framed the wins as a rejection of "the policies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton."
