A Colorado mother who was eight months pregnant was expecting to give birth within days before a drunk driver smacked into her car in July 2012. Heather Surovik's unborn son was killed in the crash, however according Colorado law, her son "was not considered a person" and listed as part of her injuries. A repeat drunk driver pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and vehicular assault, however Surovik is determined to get justice for her son. Surovik has worked with personhood advocates and delivered speeches to put a measure on the state ballot to recognize "unborn children." Colorado voters will take to the polls this November to decide on the measure Surovik has spoken in favor of across the state.
