New Lead In Hunt For Slain Woman's Killer

Police have identified a suspect in the shooting death of  Marcella Peraza.  The 21-year-old was shot and killed outside of a house party in Encanto on March 7.  Investigators are expected to release a picture of the suspect Wednesday.

The party turned violent after several people showed up uninvited in the 6800 block of Brooklyn Avenue, police said. The suspect was told to leave, which he did, but came back armed with a rifle. He opened fire into the crowd, hitting Peraza and a 26-year-old man in the arm, according to investigators.

Peraza was taken to a local hospital where she died a few hours later.

The mother of murdered daughter, Lisa Oritz, was expected to hold a news conference Wednesday at the Rock Church.

She will be joined by San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne, Deputy District attorney Dana Greisen, Chief of the Gang Division, San Diego Chargers players and the parents of other murdered teens.

Ortiz says she has forgiven the young man who took her daughter's life and does not want another mother to experience that same sense of loss, so she is pleading for peace.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call homicide detectives at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
