A San Diego State football player has been suspended from the team, nearly a month after he was charged with badly beating a fraternity member.
Dontrell Onuoha was booked on felony assault charges Sunday according to a published report.
His lawyer arranged the delay to allow the 20-year-old defensive lineman could complete spring practice. He was suspended after the booking.
Onuoha, who was released on his own recognizance, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He could get seven years if convicted.
Prosecutors say Onuoha beat a fraternity member who refused to let football players into a party last September near campus.
A police report says the victim had broken bones near his eye that required surgery and metal plates to repair the damage.
