San Diego police were called to Colina Del Sol Park Wednesday after an officer patrolling the City Heights neighborhood heard shots fired nearby.
The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) officer heard gunfire around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday near the park located at 52nd Street and University Avenue near El Cerrito and City Heights, SDPD Lt. Charles Lara said.
According to witnesses, two people were shooting at each other — one person was firing shots from Orange Avenue while the other was shooting from the park, Lara said.
Two men matching the descriptions given by witnesses were detained for questioning by police but were released a short time later.
Police found about four shell casings at the park. No weapon was located.
Officers continued to canvass the park into the afternoon for witnesses and anyone who may have video of the incident. Anyone with information was asked to call SDPD.
Fay Elementary School on 52nd Street was placed on lockdown due to the reports of gunfire, police said. The lockdown was expected to be lifted shortly after 11 a.m., according to officials.
