Questions Loom Over TJ Teen Killing

Several questions remain unanswered surrounding the death of a teen found dead in Mexico.

Last Tuesday, the body of Shane Pennington, 19, was found on a beach at Playas de TIjuana. He had been stabbed several times.

Pennington was from North Carolina but worked at a meat company in Anaheim.

"It's very unusual," said Pennington's manager Denny Boan. "This kid just wouldn't on a whim go to Tijuana on a Sunday afternoon."

Boan said that just a few days before his death, Pennington had asked to work extra days to earn more money but didn't show up, and instead sent a text that said he didn't feel well.

The victim has been identified and his family in Hendersonville, North Carolina has been notified about the death, consular officials said Monday.

Pennington's mother says that no one can tell her why her son was in Mexico or when police will release his body for burial, according to WGHP-TV in North Carolina.

The circumstances surrounding Pennington's death are unclear. The Baja California state attorney general's office released a report March 24 of a man's body found on the beach at Playas de Tijuana; he had been stabbed numerous times.

Mexican press reports described the victim as a red-haired American, believed to be about 20 years old, dressed in a blue striped shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
