Padres Prospects Earn Awards

Fort Wayne stars have big weeks

The Padres have a day off on Monday but one of their affiliates is in the news again. Low-A Fort Wayne players won a pair of awards.

TinCaps right-hander Lake Bachar was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week. All Bachar did was throw 7.0 perfect innings with seven strikeouts against South Bend in a game where Fort Wayne came within one out of a combined perfect game.

Bachar was a 5th-round selection in the 2016 MLB Draft out of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a Division III school. Since being promoted to Fort Wayne at the end of July he’s struck out 20 in 21.0 innings and opposing hitters are batting just .194 against him.

The TinCaps also have the Midwest League Player of the Week on the roster in the form of 3rd baseman Hudson Potts. One of the Padres’ top-30 prospects, Potts went 14-for-28 with a pair of home runs during the week.

If you don’t recognize the name, Potts is the slugger formerly known as Hudson Sanchez. He was taken 24th overall by the Padres in the 2016 Draft and changed his last name to Potts, the last name of his stepfather. The 18-year-old struggled a bit early in his first season of A-ball but in the month of August he’s hitting .380.

The TinCaps are currently 6.5 games up on South Bend for a Midwest League playoff spot.
