Padres Make Roster Moves

Friars send several prospects down

The Padres have some of the best young pitchers in all of Major League Baseball. For all the hype about infielders Fernando Tatis Jr. and Luis Urias, it's going to be the arms that lead what the Friars think (hope) will be a long era of success.

One of those guys is Cal Quantrill.

Their 4th-ranked prospect and 1st round pick from 2016 out of Stanford had Tommy John surgery a couple of years ago and is still building up his innings so on Friday he was reassigned to minor league camp.

With a boatload of guys (Dinelson Lamet, Luis Perdomo, Tyson Ross, Chris Young, Joey Lucchesi, Eric Lauer, Jordan Lyles, etc.) still in the mix for three rotation spots it was getting difficult for everyone to get enough innings so Quantrill was one of the odd men out.

Also going to minor league camp are right-handed pitchers Rowan Wick, Trey Wingenter, Tom Wilhelmsen and Michael Mariot, along with a group of promising position players in 1st baseman Josh Naylor, catcher Austin Allen, shortstop Javier Guerra and outfielder Franmil Reyes.
