Multiple Drivers Report Flat Tires on Interstate 8 and Interstate 805 in Mission Valley

Multiple drivers reported getting flat tires on freeways in the Mission Valley area Friday night after reports of items strewn on the freeway.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials began receiving reports of wayward items on the freeway just before 10:30 p.m. Shortly after those reports, several drivers called CHP saying their cars had sustained flat tires while driving on eastbound Interstate 8 between Interstate 805 and Interstate 15. Similar calls came from drivers on southbound I-805 to eastbound I-8.

When NBC 7 went to the scene Friday night, at least 10 vehicles appeared to have damaged tires. CHP officers stopped all traffic in the area to check the road for items and clear it.

At this time, it is unknown what caused the flat tires.

But some of the drivers told NBC 7 it appeared a wooden board with screws facing up had been discarded on the roadway.

There were no injuries.
