Man Surfed for Child Porn at Naval Base Coronado: FBI

The FBI said on Tuesday that agents had arrested a man at Naval Base Coronado who was using a fast-food restaurant's wi-fi hot spot to look at and download child pornography.

Joseph Valencia Gonzales II, 36, was arrested on Nov. 8 at about 1:15 p.m., according to the FBI. Officials said agents from the FBI and Naval Criminal Investigative Service participated in the arrest. Gonzales was sitting in the driver's seat of his truck, typing on a laptop outside the McDonald's restaurant, when he was taken into custody, agents said.

Investigators said they found 42 images and three videos in Gonzales' computer that "depicted" child pornography.

Navy spokesman Aaron Kakiel said Tuesday that Gonzales is a petty officer 1st class assigned to carrier strike group staff that travels aboard the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier.

He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000 if convicted, according to the FBI.
