A San Diego police officer, serving as a reservist in the war on terror, has died in Afghanistan.
According to a memo sent out to all officers Thursday, a veteran officer was shot and killed this week. He had been called to duty in August. That officer was later identified as Federico Borjas, 33.
Borjas was a San Diego police officer since 1999, according to the police department's union. He most recently worked as a patrol officer at the police department's central division. He had also been a member of the SWAT team and police color guard .
Officers are wearing a black bands across their badges and flags at the police station are flying at half-staff.
