A child is recovering at Rady’s Children’s Hospital after being hit by a car. Witnesses said the boy was struck while trying to cross the street near Boston Ave. and 28th St. in Barrio Logan on Friday around 2:45 p.m.
Witnesses said the truck was traveling down the street at a high rate of speed.
"I saw the car, he was going pretty fast," Chanel Espinoza told NBC San Diego. "I saw him get hit, he was running across the street and the car hit him."
Espinoza said the man got out of his car and began talking on his cell phone and didn't check on the kid until after emergency personnel arrived.
The boy was taken to Children's Hospital with traumatic injuries according to the fire department.
Police have not released the child's name.
