Authorities Investigate Homicide of 60-Year-Old Man Found in Hillcrest Street

San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a 60-year-old homeless man who was found on a street in Hillcrest Wednesday night, according to police.

At about 9:15 p.m., authorities received a 911 call of a man down in the area of Washington and Front Streets. The caller said the man appeared to have been assaulted and there was blood near him.

At the scene, officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel located a 60-year-old man with apparent trauma injuries to his head and upper body. He was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

A witness gave authorities the description of two men who may have been involved in the death. Officers spotted two males who matched the description and detained them for questioning.

The two men who were detained are also homeless, according to authorities. It is unclear if the trio got into a fight or if the suspects attacked the victim while he was sleeping.

Police said the victim has been identified, but they are not releasing his name since they yet to notify his family.

Details on what led up to the possible assault were not immediately clear.
