Gulls Attacked By Barracuda

San Diego splits two road games in Calder Cup Playoffs

On Friday night the Gulls beat the Barracuda 3-2 in overtime, the first time in 11 games between the two this season that the road team won a game.

So in their 7-game Calder Cup Playoffs series where the first two are in San Jose, the next three in San Diego, and the final two up north again, the Gulls already got the split they were hoping for.

That’s a good thing because they got devoured by the Barracuda in Game 2. San Jose outshot San Diego 42-32 in a 5-1 win to even their series 1-1.

Gulls goalie Jhonas Enroth, who was outstanding in Game 1, was under siege again on Saturday night. He stopped 30 of 35 shots before giving way to Dustin Tokarski for the final 13 minutes. The Gulls are going to have to figure out a way to slow down Ryan Carpenter. In the first period he beat Enroth for his 6th goal in seven playoff games. He also had an assist for his 10th point of the post-season.

The Gulls only goal came from Sam Carrick in the 2nd period. Another issue was the power play. San Jose scored on two of its three chances with a man advantage while San Diego came up empty in three tries.

Now the series shifts to Valley View Casino Center for three games starting with Game 3 on Wednesday. Games 4 and 5 will happen on Friday and Saturday. The puck drops at 7:00 each night.
