Fire Sparked on Torrey Pines State Reserve

Small fire quickly controlled by firefighters

A small brush fire broke out at Torrey Pines State Reserve just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Early aerials from the scene show about a quarter-acre of brush burning near the park's visitor's center with no visible signs of crews on the scene fighting the fire. A short time later, firefighters arrived and made pretty quick work of putting out the flames, leaving a smoking hillside behind.

It appears that only some prickly pear cactus and chaparrel were burned by the fire, but some smaller Torrey pines have have been burned as well. Copter One arrive around 20 minutes later but was not seen making any drops.

It's not yet known what started the fire.
