A man is recovering from serious injuries after a Good Samaritan pushed a man who was allegedly trying to kill the victim, according to Oceanside police.
Police were called to the Rite Aid Store at 1201 South Coast Hwy in Oceanside at 4.04 p.m. on Tuesday about a fight.
When they arrived, police found Carmine Fudge, 31, lying in the parking lot, severely beaten by James Peters, according to police.
βPeters reportedly approached the victim, who was sitting in a vehicle in the Rite Aid parking lot, and a fight erupted between the two men,β said Lt. Leonard Mata. βThe reason for the fight and the relationship between the two, if any, is currently under investigation.β
A Good Samaritan told police that he saw Peters beating Fudge as he was lying on the ground and intervened by pushing Peters away.
βPeters chased the Good Samaritan, who was riding a bike, but was unable to catch him,β Lt. Mata said.
Peters was still in the area when officers arrived. He was taken into custody.

βFudge was airlifted to the Scripps Trauma Unit for treatment of serious injuries that resulted from the beating,β Lt. Mata said.
Peters was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for attempted murder.
