Small Fires Flare Up Around County

A 23 acre brush fire is completely surrounded at this time. Fire crews fought the brush fire in Brown Field at Otay Mesa Road and Cactus Road around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.  According to the San Diego Fire Department, no structures were threatened and no nearby buildings were evacuated. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Santee and Heartland firefighters are investigating the cause of another small brush fire that burned in a canyon this morning.  It started around 10 a.m. in Santee near the intersection of Slope Drive and Prospect Ave, behind Grossmont College.  The fire burned about an acre and a half of land. No homes were threatened and no one was injured.

A third small brush fire happened around the same time in Mission Valley. That fire started around 10:30 this morning off of Friars Road near Fashion Valley Road. The fire disrupted trolley service for a period of time. San Diego fire investigators say that the fire started when an electrical connection to the trolley came loose and sent sparks flying. Firefighters were able to put the flames out quickly. No buildings were damaged and no injuries are reported.
