SDPD Investigates Death of Man Detained in Mission Valley

San Diego Police Department Homicide Detectives are investigating as man’s death after being detained by police in Mission Valley.

Officers responded to a report of a fight in a hotel room in the 1200 block of Hotel Circle South around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Officers called backup after hearing what they believed to be a struggle inside the room. After announcing their presence they entered the room and found a naked man in his 30s who refused to be handcuffed and continually kicked officers.

After handcuffing the suspect officers called for medical assistance because of the man’s behavior.
While waiting for the medics the man went into medical distress. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy sometime next week to determine the cause of death.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
