Minor Quakes Rattle North County

USGS sensors reported that 3.5 quakes hit areas on Friday

A series of small earthquakes have rattled the Coachella Valley over the last three days, and the largest one was felt in San Diego's North County.

USGS sensors reported that the 3.5 quakes hit the desert hills, 9 miles east of Indio, at 8:58 a.m. Friday and 5:59 p.m. Saturday.

The Saturday quake was felt as minor shaking in desert cities from Beaumont to the Mexican border. Residents of Fallbrook, Oceanside and Poway told the USGS that they felt the Saturday evening quake, coming about 55 miles from the east.

At least 12 minor shocks have also struck the same epicenter near Indio this weekend, ranging from magnitude 1.0 to 2.2.
