A Lakeside family was just a few feet away from their loved one when he crashed his motorcycle and died Thursday night.
Stephen Lawrence, 26, was driving a blue Suzuki GSXR750 motorcycle with a female passenger around 11 p.m. at Ha Hana Road and Los Coches Road in Lakeside.
His family was traveling in a car nearby when the motorcycle lost control, California Highway Patrol officers said.
Lawrence and his passenger were ejected into a shallow culvert, officers said.
The woman broke her legs but Lawrence died from his injuries.
Officers said the motorcycle was speeding at the time of the crash. It's unclear if drugs or alcohol was involved in the accident.
