A 5-year-old boy who was riding in a canoe with his father in Mission Bay when it capsized has died, according to the medical examiner's office.
Keona Kazuo Ferreira apparently got caught under the canoe when it flipped over on Saturday night about 7 p.m. and quickly sank.
It's unclear if the boy was wearing a life jacket, but he was pulled to shore afterward and rescuers attempted CPR. He was then brought to a hospital but was pronounced brain-dead on Tuesday.
Police are investigating the accident.
