Third Eye Blind, Jimmy Eat World Join Forces for SD Show

Third Eye Blind and Jimmy Eat World pair up for a summer San Diego show

Your "semi-charmed life" just got a whole lot better: Chart-topping rock groups Third Eye Blind and Jimmy Eat World are joining forces for a 2019 "Summer Gods" tour -- and they’re blazing through Chula Vista's North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre on Aug. 1.

Tickets to the San Diego show go on sale to the general public on Friday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. PST. Various pre-sales and VIP packages are listed via LiveNation.com.

The perennially touring Third Eye Blind were in town just last month -- performing at 91x’s annual holiday festival, Wrex the Halls, at Pechanga Arena. Hitting the road again in support of their latest studio release, a seven-song covers EP titled "Thanks for Everything," the Stephan Jenkins-fronted group initially rose to worldwide prominence on the strength of their multi-platinum-selling 1997 self-titled debut album, which featured the singles "Semi-Charmed Life," "Jumper," and "How’s It Going to Be."

In a 2017 SoundDiego interview, Jenkins explained how the band, and those 20-year-old songs, have stood the test of time.

"The songs live on. That is true," he said. "It's unbelievable but it's true [laughs]. And the thing is, those 16-year-olds [from 1997] are still at our shows. That's the strangest part. We're not nostalgic; we're not a memory. We are present. What I mean by that is that our music is kind of a playlist, it doesn't have a date stamp on it for kids who are 16 through 26 years old. They find our music through each other, and it speaks to them now and enlivens their experience now -- so it's current for them. That is miraculous to me. I look at it with a sense of wonder because I had nothing to do with it. It's their activity that keeps it alive."

Jimmy Eat World, another one of modern rock’s most enduring and beloved bands, are also making an eagerly awaited return to San Diego after putting in a rousing performance at last September’s Kaaboo Del Mar festival. The band -- comprised of lead guitarist/vocalist Jim Adkins, drummer Zach Lind, guitarist Tom Linton and bassist Rick Burch -- got its start in Mesa, Arizona, in 1993 but it wasn’t until their 2001 album, "Bleed American," that they captured the hearts, minds and ears of millions.

Led by the chart-topping single "The Middle," the group toured incessantly and followed up their popular fourth album with 2004’s "Futures" -- which also spawned another massive hit, "Pain." Since then, they’ve released four more albums, with 2016’s "Integrity Blues" serving as their latest full-length.

Could this new tour serve as a promotional trek for forthcoming studio records from both Third Eye Blind and Jimmy Eat World? Fingers crossed.
