Oh, Oxford

Hold on to your booties.

PINK & BLUE: Oxfords usually have laces, but this Pink Studio Jewel Bootie ($82) is so charming, it's worth the exception. Pick it up at Kate Ross in North Park, along with a few cute dresses to go with it.

BEEN THERE: If any store has staked a fashion claim to the oxford, it has to be Anthropologie. As such, they've taken their liberties with this Winter White leather lace-up by distressing the dye and lightening up the stacked wooden heel. They aren't in any San Diego stores yet but they're worth checking out online.

FRINGE BENEFITS: If you're going to go old-school style, don't hold back. Charles David in Fashion Valley Mall adds laces, buckles and fringe to a platform sole in his Sophomore shoes, but somehow it all works in basic black ($275).

JUST RELAX: Structure can be a little stifling, so Stephanie's Shoes in La Jolla features the Boccioni patent bootie. With dark, surprisingly soft patent leather and lovely subtle details, you can leave the stiff stuff for your librarian ($89).

SHORT AND SWEET: Simplicity is the key to many things, and oxfords are no exception. Steve Madden's Cristall foregoes the fancy footwork and focuses on elegant construction and sculptural details. Plus the cognac and dark grey colors have limitless potential, and they're on sale at Fashion Valley Mall ($104.97).
