Cop Crashes, K-9 Trapped in Car

A San Diego police K-9 car drove off the road on Interstate-5 Friday, said San Diego police sergeant Bill Nulton. The dog was trapped inside the car for a time.

The officer was responding to a burglary in progress. He was driving northbound trying to exit the freeway at Del Mar Heights Road when a semi truck cut him off, said Nulton.

The officer was traveling about 60 mph and realized he couldn’t stop in time. He pulled over onto the shoulder to avoid a collision, but the driver in front of him had the same idea. The officer ran over the ice plant and through the barrier fence. Rescue workers had to cut the fence to get the K-9 out of the car.

The officer and the dog are both fine, the patrol car appears to have sustained some damage.
