Can Murals End Graffiti Spree?

Plan would cost thousands

The city of Vista is hoping some artwork can fix the Sprinter line graffiti problem.

Despite regular painting from city crews, graffiti continues to spring up on fences and walls along the six miles of rail line, the North County Times reported.

Arts leaders in Vista are proposing several 400-foot-long murals.

The plan calls for the arts commission to solicit sponsorships from 10 businesses that would each pay $10,000 for a mural. Artists would receive $6,700 as a commission and the remaining $3,300 would be used for wall preparation, an anti-graffiti coating and ongoing maintenance, the paper reported.
