40,000 Partiers Flood Into The Gaslamp

The skies cleared up just in time for Mardi Gras, a good omen for the 40,000 or so San Diegans who flooded into downtown to take part in the Gaslamp's annual Fat Tuesday celebration. Revelers packed the sidewalks of 5th Avenue last night to catch a glimpse of the main event—the Masquerade Parade, which featured eclectic groups of dancers, bead-throwers, and even Chargers running back Ryan Mathews. The six-hour Mardi Gras celebration culminated in a block-long dance party in front of the Technovale stage, where The Crystal Method upped the unce factor until almost 1 a.m.
