Opening Day
Del Mar Thoroughbred Club: July 17
Hats, horses and the unofficial start to sundress season: Opening Day is not to be missed! Grab your friends and fedora and get down in Old Del Mar. North County Yelpers tip that you should be prepared for traffic and arrive early: Races start at 2 p.m. but give yourself time for lines, parking and perusing the hat creations of this years contest entries. Place your bets and best of luck!

Dive Adult Swim Saturdays
Harrah’s Recon Resort: Starts July 13
Every Saturday this summer you’ll find Yelpers poolside at Harrah’s. The remodeled pool complex swan dives into a sexy soiree complete with SoCal’s only swim up bar, well-known DJ’s, cabana rentals and transportation packages from all over SD County. Grab food truck inspired bites from Rita’s Cantina while you float along the lazy river: 21+ from 12-7 p.m.

Sharp Memorial Concert Series
Poway: Summer Sundays
Beautiful Old Poway Park offers warm summer nights and hosts a free live music concert each Sunday ‘til Aug. 11 starting at 5:30 p.m. Bring a picnic, lawn chairs, blankets and pack up the kiddies: Parking is free for residents and $5 for non-residents with a free shuttle from Poway High School. On July 14 enjoy the Mark Jackson Band and on July 21, The Silver Beatles Band.

The Obon Festival
Vista: July 27-28
The Vista Buddhist Temple and Japanese Cultural Center is hosting this free family friendly two day festival featuring Bon Odori dancing lessons, traditional pastry classes, Taiko drumming, Origami, exhibits, food vendors and more! The Martial Arts demonstrations are not to be missed and you’ll love Folk Song performances feature three-string sanshin/jamisen and a banjo-like instrument with a snakeskin-covered body.

Classic Car Nights
Encinitas: July 18
Main Street Encinitas host a night of hot rods, Woodies and other classic and vintage cars from 5:30-7:30 pm. Car clubs line S. Coast Highway 101 from D Street to J Street. The Retro Rocketts rock n’ roll in the Lumberyard Courtyard for entertainment and The Walrus 105.7 keeps the tunes bumping next to the Yelp Photo booth. Car clubs have special parking recommended and make reservations at your favorite local restaurant: It’s bound to be a busy night!
