How many shopping days until Christmas? But I digress, it's November and the year is almost over. Where did it go? It's been an extremely weird 2016, losing a bunch of rock & roll icons and it's all downhill from here. We've also lost the San diego Music Awards, but we do have the Thing this month -- the San Diego Music Thing. Apologies to all the local bands that won't be nominated or win an award this year. I guess we are in a year of transition and don't even get me started about the election -- but please vote. It's your civic duty! Shine on, you crazy diamond!
Nov. 1: Dia de los Muertos with the Adicts and Lower Class Brats at the Observatory. UK punk band since 1975.
Nov. 2: Elephant Stone, Gravyyard and Post Attraction at the Hideout. Elephant Stone is from Canada and plays psychedelic rock with Indian influences.
Nov. 3: Bob Moses at the Music Box. Sexy music from Canada. That is a band by the way, not a person.
Nov. 4: The King Khan & BBQ Show, Paint Fumes and the Kabbs at the Casbah. What is it with Canada, eh? King Khan is also from our neighbors to the north and this is a show to be experienced "live" and in the flesh.
Nov. 5: Fall Brewing 2 Year Anniversary with the Creepy Creeps, Schizophonics MC5 Revue, the Widows and Jon Cougar Concentration Camp at the Casbah. Congrats to Fall Brewing, try their Loudspeaker IPA...
Nov. 6: Lewis Del Mar at the Casbah. NYC indie-folk duo.
Nov. 7: Purling Hiss at the Hideout. Philly-based psych rock band that loves white noise.
Nov. 8: Peter Hook and the Light at House of Blues. Joy Division and New Order bassist performing songs from those bands.
Nov. 9: Death Grips at the Observatory. Electro-punk hip-hop.
Nov. 10: STRFKR, Gigamesh and Psychic Twin at the Observatory. It's pronounced Star F---er.

Nov. 12: San Diego Music Thing night two.
Nov. 13: Electric Citizen, Horisont and Red Wizard at Soda Bar. Bio says: No frills rock & roll for the fringes.
Nov. 14: Branches at the Casbah. Harmony-driven indie rock.
Nov. 15: William Control at Soda Bar. Darkwave synthpop.
Nov. 16: July Talk and MONA at the Casbah. More Canadians and a band from Ohio.
Nov. 17: Pennywise, Strung Out, Unwritten Law and Runaway Kids at House of Blues. Punk rock, people.
Nov. 18: Trash Talk at Soda Bar. Hardcore, thrashcore and some say "powerviolence" are the genres this band from Sacramento falls into.
Nov. 19: Gogol Bordello at the Observatory. Gypsy punk.
Nov. 20: Screaming Lord Stax and the Savages, the Gargoyles and DJ Tony the Tyger at the Casbah. Mike Stax of the Loons recreates Screaming Lord Sutch, legendary '60s UK psych and horror-themed rocker.
Nov. 21: Zombie Surf Camp, Jason Hanna & the Bullfighters, and Millionaire Beach Bums at the Casbah. The opening band rocks and the average age is 14.
Nov. 22: Warpaint, Goldensuns and Vs Colour at the Observatory. You must hear Warpaint's new song called "New Song," genius!
Nov. 23: Drink up, buttercup, but get home safe whatever you do!
Nov. 24: Happy Thanksgiving!
Nov. 25: The Lulls and Garden Echo at Soda Bar. Record release party for local band the Lulls.
Nov. 26: The Interrupters, Left Alone and Oceanside Sound System at the Irenic. Great ska-punk from a band whose new album was produced by Tim Armstrong of Rancid.
Nov. 27: Skinny Lister, Lincoln Durham and Trapper Schoepp & the Shades at Soda Bar. Skinny Lister is a six-piece Britsh folk band.
Nov. 28: AJ Froman, Boostive and Manganista at the Casbah. Support Local Music.
Nov. 29: The Fink Bombs, Alvino & the Dwells and Secret Samurai at the Casbah. Support Local Music.
Nov. 30: Lee Fields and the Expressions at the Belly Up. American soul artist that has been called the Little JB, as in James Brown -- jump back and kiss yourself!
