Prayers Collaborate With Christian Death on New Single

Cholo-goth duo Prayers release new EP and documentary

On his Facebook page two days ago, Prayers frontman Rafael Reyes announced the release of a new two-song single called “Cursed Be Thy Blessings,” featuring original members from the gothic rock band Christian Death.

Over the past few years, the San Diego duo, consisting of Reyes and producer Dave Parley, have made a name for themselves by pioneering the cholo-goth brand and the SD killwave sound. Mixing elements of post-punk, industrial, goth and Chicano gang culture, Prayers have a sound and image that’s altogether their own.

They’ve only been around for four years now, but already they’ve headlined Observatory North Park, played Coachella and were featured in the Noisey documentary, “Prayers and the Cholo Goth Movement.”

Coinciding with the release of their new single, UpRoxx has premiered a new documentary called “Beyond and Back,” which details Prayers’ collaboration and recording process on “Cursed Be Thy Blessings.”

The single sees Prayers taking a more ominous turn with the title track. While there are more atmosphere and dynamism overall, the up-tempo industrial pulse remains, reminding you that SD killwave’s cholo goths are here to stay.

"Cursed Be Thy Blessings" is available to stream on Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play and Amazon Music now.
