DJ Robin Roth's Weekend Picks

For today’s submission, DJ Robin Roth checks in with DJ / electronica happenings around town -- including the demise of the Beauty Bar and an event at Inflatable World.  A former 91X co-worker and dear friend, Robin is a veritable talent with amazing knowledge and reach within the local music community.  Without further ado ...

Hey, it’s Robin, there are so many awesome events this weekend, but make sure you pace yourself because you don’t want to miss the final party at the Beauty Bar.  On October 1st the venue becomes the Til-Two Club, but Sunday, September 26th, we say goodbye with DJs that have played the Beauty Bar over the past 4 years, including Gabe Vega, Saul Q, Morgan Young, Shark Attack, Get Ugly and Adam Salter.  There will also be live music from Longstay and The Space (v.beta) and the event will be hosted by SoundDiego’s Rosie (of SDDialedIn), May Star, Norton and Lindsay Danger.

A great way to gear up for the weekend is Club 80s at Kadan tonight.  A Boy Named Art and Roxanne Redlight play a wide variety of music from New Wave to One Hit Wonders to New Romantic to Underground 80s -- you’ll be working up a sweat on the dance floor, so no leg warmers needed.

Friday night’s shenanigans starts with an event at Inflatable World (of all places).  You’ve probably seen the crazy setup off the 8 freeway in the Mission Valley parking lot -- next to Bennigans.  The party is called Electric Bounce and features DJs Ayla Simone, Squeeze My Lemons, Office Twins, El Dawg, Intuit and more.  Doors open at 6pm and there will be a beer garden for those who are 21+.  For more fun later on that night, venture over to the Kava Lounge for Machine Funk w/ DJs Dr. Indulgent, Alex Villalobos, Blackass & Le Chien.  It’s a night of electro, disco and funky house music.

Saturday night yours truly will be hosting Club Sabbat at The Flame.  San Diego’s classiest Gothic, Industrial, and Fetish event that has been going on for 12 years now.  We’ll be doing a Combichrist CD Release Party that night -- the band’s new album drops the following Tuesday.  DJs Liquid Grey, and special guest Adamnation, will be rocking the front room while Tom King keeps it old school, in the back room.  If you remember Soil “back in the day”, you will really enjoy the music this Saturday, because Tom was the force behind the legendary club.

See you on the dance floor !

Robin.
