Danny Boyle Hoping to Put Michael Fassbender in a “Trance”

When was the last time you were excited a remake of a TV movie?

Director Danny Boyle is after Michael Fassbender to star in his upcoming thriller, "Trance," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is a remake of a 2001 made-for-TV movie written and directed by Joe Ahearne.

Fassbender would play the leader of a gang of thieves who conspire with an auction house employee to steal some art. But the plan is endangered when the assistant suffers a blow to the head and suddenly can't remember anything, like the whereabouts of a valuable painting, so Fassbender hires a female hypnotist (hence "Trance") to get the answer out of him.

But even if this thing goes forward with its planned fall shoot, the film would sit in limbo while Boyle focused on directing the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Olympics in London, after which the footage would be edited for a 2013 release.

In the meantime, Boyle is directing a stage version of "Frankenstein" at the Royal National Theater in London, and Fassbender can be seen June 3 in "X-Men: First Class," and continues to film Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel, "Prometheus," which co-stars Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace.
