Shandel Menezes reports weekdays on NBC 7. She joined NBC 7 in February 2023 after working as a reporter at KYTX in Tyler, Texas.
During her time in East Texas, Menezes covered a wide range of extreme weather events and major breaking news stories, including tornadoes, hurricanes, city-wide evacuations, and the historic deep freeze of 2021.
She began her journalism career through internships with the Television Academy and FOX LA. While attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Menezes also interned at WTVD and WRAL in Durham and Raleigh, North Carolina.
At UNC, Menezes was actively involved in several campus organizations, including Movement of Youth, the Caribbean Student Association, and the Carolina Association of Black Journalists. She also participated in student immersion programs abroad, learning from journalists in London, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Beijing. During her travels, she had the opportunity to practice yoga on the Great Wall of China — an experience she describes as unforgettable.
Outside the newsroom, Menezes enjoys cooking, staying active through workouts and volleyball, and spending time with family and friends.
