Auto thefts are down in the North County and officials say it's because of a new tracking system, the North County Times reported.
Last year, eight of nine cities in the North County saw a decline in thefts.
Escondido, which usually has the most cars stolen, dropped nearly 20 percent drop, according to the San Diego Association of Governments.
Carlsbad saw a similar decline and thefts were down more than 30 percent in Fallbrook and Encinitas.
Officials say new hot sheets that allow police to track and break up rings is behind the decline.
