Padres Pitcher Used iPhone to Diagnose Appendicitis: Report

Tim Stauffer, who's 2-1 this season, is still recovering from an emergency appendectomy.

At some point early Tuesday, Stauffer used his iPhone to browse a medical Web site, according to a published report. After plugging in his symptoms, the site suggested that he may have had appendicitis, reported the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The spot starter then called Todd Hutcheson, the Padres’ head trainer, around 3 a.m. while the team was in in San Francisco. Soon after Stauffer had surgery. He will be out an indefinite period of time, according to the team’s site.

“We’re still trying to sort that out,” said GM Jed Hoyer.
