New Players Lift Padres

The Padres day started with the news of Cameron Maybin's 25-game suspension for a failed drug test. It ended with an 8-3 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Yangervis Solarte, acquired from the Yankees in the Chase Headley deal, tripled in the first inning to drive in the Padres first run. He finished with two hits an RBI and two runs scored. Jeff Francoeur also delivered. Called up from El Paso to replace Maybin on the roster, the big league veteran collected a hit, drove in a run and also scored. Tommy Medica had a productive day at the plate as well. He had three hit and drove in two.

Padres starter Ian Kennedy went six innings to collect his eighth win. Kennedy managed to navigate around the season high six walks he allowed. Tsuyoshi Wada started for the Cubs and took the loss. Cubs pitchers had trouble finding the plate all evening. They combined to walk eleven Padres.

The series wraps up Thursday night at Wrigley.
